BuddyBoss 2.0 is designed to work with the recently released BuddyPress 1.5 update. It will not work with previous versions of BuddyPress. In the past, in order to update to a new version of the theme all you had to do was copy the files documented in the Changelog. However BuddyBoss 2.0 is a complete code rewrite and thus the upgrade requires that you completely override your theme with a fresh copy of BuddyBoss 2.0. BuddyPress 1.5 was itself a major update (a year and a half in the making) and we needed to rewrite the theme for full compatibility and feature updates. This will be a harder update in some ways, but it’s well worth it.
How to upgrade
1. Backup all of your files from your copy of BuddyBoss! Backup your database!
2. Update to BuddyPress 1.5 via the WordPress dashboard, at Dashboard > Updates. Follow the onscreen instructions to create pages to correspond with each BuddyPress component. With 1.5, every BuddyPress component page (Members, Groups, Forums, Activity, Multi-Blogs) will be registered to its own WordPress page. You can use these pages in your custom menus, edit the titles, and add content to them.
3. If you are using BP Profile Search, update to the newest version as the old version does not work with BuddyPress 1.5, at Dashboard > Updates.
4. If you are using oEmbed for BuddyPress, deactivate it and delete it. All of its functionality is included in BuddyPress 1.5 and so it is no longer needed.
5. Download BuddyBoss 2.0 using the link in your purchase email. Upload it to your site and activate it.
6. Go to Settings > Discussion and select the “BuddyBoss Man” as your default avatar.
7. If you are using custom menus, go to Appearance > Menus. Make sure to add your homepage and your new BuddyPress component pages into your primary menu.
8. Take any custom edits from your old site and carefully move them into a child theme. Some of them may not be needed as many requested features are now part of BuddyBoss 2.0.
9. Make sure to follow the updated general Setup Instructions for BuddyBoss 2.0.
